The state Department of Health begins four medical residency programs in different specialties. The selected professionals will work in three hospitals and Basic Health Units (UBS). The aim of this initiative is to qualify and enhance assistance to SUS users.
They will work in the fields of general surgery, psychiatry, mental health, and obstetric nursing. The offered vacancies last between two and three years and have subsidized scholarships, under a special in-service training scheme, in the amount of R$4,106.09, authorized by the Ministry of Education (MEC).
Two of the new programs, with five places. One of them is the medical residency in psychiatry, set up at Adauto Botelho Hospital, in Pinhais, which helps patients with mental disorders. This is the first batch that will participate in the program in this specialty. The hospital is one of the oldest in Paraná, established in 1954, and a reference in psychiatric care.
The Coastal Regional Hospital, in Paranagua, will henceforth have the first group of general surgery residents, strengthening the care team for the residents of coastal municipalities.
Of the 14 residents who participated in the event, four are from the Interdisciplinary Mental Health Program, which allows residents to work in the mental health care network of the municipality of Pinhais, Curitiba metropolitan area. The program is a partnership between Escola de Saúde Pública do Paraná (ESPP) and City Hall and has already formed two chapters since the beginning, in 2019.
Complexo Hospitalar do Trabalhador will receive five residents to train specialists in obstetrics, including comprehensive care for women and care for newborns. They are part of the Monoprofessional Program in Obstetric Nursing, which was also established in 2019 and has already trained nine professionals in this field.
These four areas require a lot of help, hence the importance of strengthening these disciplines. In 2019, we have started the process of extending scholarships across Paraná. In this department, the ESPP has been strengthened and a reference in vocational training and qualification. The Minister of State for Health, Beto Brito, said the new professionals will work directly in the unified health system.
School – ESPP invests in the training and qualification of professionals for SUS. It is engaged in initial training, vocational education and higher education. It was established in 1958 with the aim of implementing and developing programmes, procedures and services, as well as training specialized professionals to work in the field of public health.
According to the principal of the school, Edevar Daniel, the total resources invested in three years are already over R$1.8 million. In February, for example, we trained 12 new residents, seven in obstetric nursing and five multi-professionals to work in mental health. It is very encouraging to see new residents every year, investing their time and learning in areas that are highly demanded by residents.
