It’s called Generative Search Experiment (SGE) and it’s a new AI-based tool from Google Chrome.
The feature arrives with the aim of elevating the experience of using the browser on iOS and Android devices.
The Google Chrome SGE summarizes the user’s searched information
Google just announced a new feature in the version of Chrome for iOS and Android. The tool, which is based on artificial intelligence, will summarize the searched information for the users. In other words, the browser starts presenting an informative paragraph about the searched term, before the results are presented.
According to information released in a press release, this tool is still in beta, but now it can be used globally.
All interested users can activate the new feature in Search Labs. At the moment, the tool is available for Chrome in Android and iOS versions, but over the next few days it will also come to the PC browser version.
In practice, the resource uses key points from the various articles found in the search to make an objective summary of the searched term. Google indicates that this digest is made only from articles that are freely available to the public.
Another novelty of the SGE tool is the “Explore on Page” option, which allows users to view the questions answered by the article and jump directly to the most relevant topic of interest.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai revealed that user feedback on this new feature has been positive and that this may be the search path in the future. The press release ends by encouraging users to give their opinion about the new feature through Chrome’s Search Labs.
