Google has begun to introduce support for passkeys on all company accounts, allowing users to have an additional way to sign in, without having to use passwords or other sign-in methods.
depending on the companySupport for passkeys will start adding to all devices where the company has an app, and for all users with Google accounts. These passkeys are associated with each device, and are unlocked using traditional methods – PIN, facial recognition, or other means of biometric identification.
Passkeys also provide more security for users, as they do not directly require passwords to be used. That is, on platforms that support it, users can log into it without having to use passwords.
If the entity is attacked, there is no data about passwords that can be stolen. At the same time, it also reduces the need for users to remember different passwords or use different password managers, since they are tied to the same devices.
The passkey’s private key is found directly on users’ devices, so only users can use the key to access their accounts on online platforms. At the same time, this ensures that it is the user who logs into the platform, and not third parties.
The only data shared with Google, in the authentication process, will be the device’s public key and signature. No biometric information is sent directly to the company or other entities – the private key stays safe and secure on the devices.
Users can configure the access key (passkey) in their Google accounts, Via this link.
Finally, your passkeys will sync directly to the Google cloud. Therefore, it’s secure even if users lose or change their devices – plus other traditional sign-in methods for company accounts are still available.
The news should begin to become available to all users from today.
