Imagine finding an upcoming Google Calendar event that you don’t remember. This seems to have happened to a lot of users over the past few days. This is all because this Google app uses random Gmail messages that have nothing to do with any plan or commitment to create these fake events. At this time, it appears that random Gmail messages with dates are causing the Google Calendar issues.
Gmail creates problems for Google Calendar
Tweet from Christina Stephens (@employee) showed how her calendar filled up with random events based on the marketing content and newsletters she received in her Gmail account. By the way, 9to5Google reports that some of their accounts are showing an all-day event called “US Financial Privacy Notice,” which also appears as a reminder notification of the same name on some Android smartphones. This event appears to have been generated from a newsletter sent to the Gmail account.
There is no apparent reason for this to happen. However, there is a way to prevent this from happening. In the Google Calendar app, access Settings. Then tap Gmail Events and turn Show Gmail Events off.
In the meantime, to deactivate this function in Google Calendar, open the website and click on the icon with the gear wheel in the upper right side of the screen. Then click on Settings and scroll down to Gmail Events. Click the checkbox to clear the setting that says: Show events automatically generated by Gmail in my calendar.
However, doing so prevents calendar events from being generated from spam in Gmail. If this can be good on the one hand, then it is bad on the other. It’s just that some important things can eventually be forgotten.
So what is really important is that Google fix this bug soon.
