A GE Hitachi Nuclear Power (GEH) has received a $42.7 million grant to support the development of its BWRX-300 small modular reactor in the UK. The project will now enter the General Project Appraisal (GDA) process. The company said it is developing a UK supply chain that includes an MoU with Sheffield Forgemasters For a potential supply contract for British sourced steel to support deployment of BWRX-300 small modular reactors (SMRs). The GEH Future Nuclear Enabling Fund (FNEF) program consists of two-stage business readiness activities, including an advanced production plan and an operator plan. The Department of Energy Conservation and Net Zero (DESNZ) has now announced the application “Exceeded quality thresholds in all four evaluation criteria and successfully completed departmental due diligence processes and administrative approvals.”
Supported by GEH Jacobs, It has supported applications for new nuclear power plant projects in the UK since 2007. In October, it was announced GEH reached the next stage of the competition Large British Nuclear SMR.
