In total, 24 educational units participated in the competition, which aims to mobilize the community to eliminate mosquito infestations Aedes aegypti. The awards ceremony is scheduled to take place on Tuesday (19) at 9 a.m. in the presence of Brazilian General Manager Ennio Ferri and Mayor Chico Brasileiro.
R$300,000 will be divided between the winning schools to invest in improvements. The two main prizes, worth R$50,000 each, will be awarded to municipal school teachers Professor Benedicto João Cordero (Jardim Taruba) and Antônio Gonçalves Dias (Campos do Iguaçu).
Padre Luigi Salvucci Municipal School (Vila C Nova) will win R$40,000 for third place. In fourth and fifth place, with a prize of R$30,000 each, were the schools Eloi Lohmann (Jardim Kongonhas) and Írio Manganelli (Morumbi I).
From sixth to tenth place, with a prize of R$20,000 each, municipal schools Olavo Belac (Gleba Guarani), Professor Elenis Melhoranza (Jardim América), Acacio Pedroso (Profilorp 1), Osvaldo Cruz (Lotimento João Paulo II) will qualify. It will be awarded to him and Emilio de Menezes (Morumbi II).
The competition began last May and was prompted, according to Itaipu, by the large numbers of dengue fever in the municipality and in Brazil’s border region with Paraguay and Argentina.
This measure was an offshoot of an initiative taken by the Technical Committee on Epidemiology and Epidemiology of GT Itaipu Saúde, which will initially serve 16 schools – five in Brazil, six in Paraguay and five in Argentina.
With the aim of raising awareness and mobilizing more people, Itaipu Binacional has expanded the Education for Individual Health Promotion in the Triple Frontier Project, promoting the health-friendly Gymkhana to all 50 municipal schools in Foz do Iguaçu.
