The results of the first vote in the election for the leadership of the Conservative Party are already known and Boris Johnson’s former finance minister Rishi Sunak was among the first to leave the government in the crisis that led to the government’s collapse. Resigned as Prime Minister, leading the race with 88 votes. Incumbent Trade Minister Benny Mordant received 67 votes and British diplomatic chief Liz Truss received 50 votes.

By the end of next week, the two finalists will be revealed. Boris Johnson’s successor will be announced on September 5, before the end of MPs’ summer recess.
