aExports of agro-food products from the European Union to the rest of the world increased by 31% compared to 2021 at a value of €229.8 billion, with a focus on cereals, cereal preparations and milling products, which increased by 7% and 10%, respectively.
On the other hand, the European Union sold more wheat to developing countries, namely Algeria (4.9 million tons), Morocco (4.1 million tons), Egypt (2.9 million tons) and Nigeria (2.5 million tons).
For its part, imports increased by 31% in terms of value, to reach 172 thousand Egyptian pounds, which Brussels explains by the rise in international prices, especially for oil products and coffee.
Brazil was the main source for the European Union (12%), followed by the United Kingdom (9%) and Ukraine (8%), with the United States dropping to fourth place.
In 2021, the value of agri-food trade in the European Union totaled €328.1 billion, with a trade surplus of €67.9 billion.
