numberLast year, in Portugal, there were nearly 600,000 speeding tickets. A large number, however, is found not only in our country. This is why the European Union wanted to take action and implement Guidance 2019/2144 – which takes effect on Wednesday – a commitment that all new cars sold will be equipped with Intelligent Speed Assist (ISA).
It should be noted that this EU standard applies to vehicles of classes M (with at least four wheels and for passenger transport) and N (with at least four wheels for the carriage of goods and merchandise).
The function of this ISA is to alert the driver to the speed limit in the lane in which he is traveling. This will allow the driver to be more aware of the speed at which he is allowed to drive, although this system is for information only. ISA has no intrusive functions.
“The ISA system can rely on different input methods such as camera monitoring, map data and machine learning. However, the actual presence of actual digital speed limit signals should take precedence over any other information available on board.
It is reported that the European authority aims to reduce collisions by about 30% and deaths from road accidents by 20%.
