Figma had to pause the release of a new feature as part of their new offerings on the platform.
CEO, Dylan Field, Certain Figma has announced that it will discontinue its “Make Design” function, which uses artificial intelligence to generate designs, after criticism that it replicates the interface of Apple’s Weather app.
The discovery was made by some users on social media, who pointed out that the designs created by the tool would be very similar to those found in Apple’s weather app, leading to accusations that Figma was using Apple’s app design for training.
Make Design was a feature unveiled during the company’s Config event that uses AI to quickly create interfaces within the app based on user descriptions. The company claims that this system uses proprietary models and that they were trained using various internal information sources.
However, the company may have prioritized launching the feature as quickly as possible, without the necessary oversight to avoid potential abuse or legal issues. As a result, the company has decided to suspend the launch of the feature, and will now analyze existing possibilities to improve content creation models.
