The Portuguese controlled the tie without forcing
Boat driver Fernando Pimenta started his participation in the Olympic Games in the best possible way, qualifying directly to the semi-finals (tomorrow) in the K1 1.000 metres, after winning the third series of qualifying. On the fifth track, 31-year-old Portuguese national Ponte de Lima led the race from the start and finished with a time of 3,40,323 minutes. The Slovakian Peter Geli came in second, 1808 seconds behind the Portuguese.
Remember that the first two seeded groups in each of the five qualifier series will advance directly to the semi-finals to be held tomorrow, and the remaining two seeded groups will have to compete in the quarter-finals soon (12:37). Fernando Pimenta, 31, was the Olympic runner-up at London 2012, along with Emmanuel Silva, in the K2 1000m, and second place in Europe this year.
Minutes earlier, Teresa Portela qualified directly for the semi-finals, finishing second in her K1 200m exit, while Joanna Vasconcelos will have to play in the quarter-finals at the same distance.
