The Colombian Attorney General’s office confirmed his arrest, but did not release further details about the case. The Spanish newspapers El Pais and El Mundo, however, came forward that the individual was suspected of sexually assaulting a minor under the age of fourteen.
After the children are rescued from the jungle, the maternal grandparents, fighting for custody of their grandchildren, denounce the minors and their mother, Magdalena Mokotoi, who died in an air disaster, as victims of abuse at the hands of Ranuk, who is the stepfather of the older of the two children, Leslie Mokotoi , aged 13, and Soleni Mokotoi, aged nine, and the father of their youngest, Tian, aged four, and Christine, aged one. According to reports received, Ranock allegedly attempted to abuse her stepson’s eldest daughter.
Currently, the four minors are in the custody of the Colombian Institute for Family Welfare (ICBF), which has decided to suspend Manuel Ranock’s visits to the children, while investigations continue. The director of the foundation, Astrid Caceres, said the four brothers are doing well and are looking forward to resuming their activities in order to reintegrate into the educational system. “Ensuring the rights of the Mucutuy brothers requires a prudent amount of time that will allow us to protect their safety, until the family context is safe for their development,” said the ICBF director.
