sRecently, a team of researchers concluded that exercising in the morning is best for heart health and helps reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke.
“It is well established that exercise is good for heart health, and our study indicates that morning physical activity appears to be more beneficial,” study author Ghali Elbalak, a researcher at Leiden University Medical Center in the Netherlands, said in a statement.

For the study published in the scientific journal of European Society of CardiologyGhaly Elbalak and his team analyzed 85,000 people, ages 42 to 78, who had not been diagnosed with any type of cardiovascular disease.
The average age among the participants was 62 years and about 58% of the participants were women. In total, they were followed for six to eight years, during which time nearly 3,000 participants developed some kind of cardiovascular disease and 796 had a stroke.
With all of this information, the investigators concluded that physical activity, performed between 8 and 11 a.m., was the activity that showed the most benefits and reduced risks for both events.
So, in total, it was possible to understand that people who were more active in the early or late morning were able to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease by 11% and 16%, respectively. The number that changes to 17% when talking about the risk of having a stroke.
The researchers also concluded that women feel the greatest benefit from exercising in the morning.
Incidentally, among women who were most active early in the morning or late in the day, the risk of cardiovascular disease was 22% and 24% lower, respectively. Women who were most active in the late morning were able to reduce their risk of stroke by 35%.
