For the second year in a row, Artística – Estúdio de Artes Performativas is taking eight students to the Quay West competition in Swansea, United Kingdom from March 1st to 6th.
Students will compete in freestyle, jazz and street dance in solo, pairs and trios categories in the 11 to 14 age group. They are: Amelia Cares; Arella Johnson; Emilia Gonsalves; Sarah Serrão; Alice Henriques; Leonor Ferreira; Regina Maderos; and Sarah Moniz.
“We are the only studio in Portugal competing in these categories and we are going with the support of the Calheta City Council, Braceres Parish Council and Arco da Calheta Parish Council,” says a press release sent out this afternoon.
Preparation for the competition has been going on for five months, with participants training an average of 5 hours a week, supported by teacher Michelle Gears, who has been teaching the dance form in the UK for 20 years, and guest teacher Melissa Johnson. .
“One of Artistica’s objectives is to provide students with all possible opportunities, just like students abroad”, he adds, stressing that the aim is “ambitious” but that they believe in “students’ talent and commitment”. “..
