A few weeks after it was known whether he would play in the Primeira or Segunda Liga, Estrela, who will participate in the Liga Portugal Bwin preliminary qualifiers, announced the sale of 90% of SAD to the North American My Football Club (MYFC) group.
Paolo Lupo, the senior partner in Estrela until then, is set to become a founding partner alongside Hugo Cortez, Ivan Braz and Paul Roy (Galaxy Racer shareholder, owner of 13 esports teams), the club announced in a statement.
In the same statement, Estrela explained that MYFC’s aim was to acquire four more clubs at international level, with several high-profile investors, including Patrice Evra, the former France international, and “other international players to be announced soon”.
Hugo Cortez, CEO of MYFC, justified Estrela’s choice for this investment: “Estrela da Amadora is a club with a lot of history and a very passionate fanbase, and our goal is to make the club grow at all levels, focusing on innovation technology to bring the club closer to members and fans.”
SAD President Paulo Lupo also spoke about the deal: «As President of Estrela da Amadora, I confirm our commitment to salvaging the greatness and passion of this club in the search for a more serious football, where all the players are in the game. Respected institutions, opponents, rulers and supporters. We are determined to write a new story for the club and football, based on honesty, transparency and mutual respect. Together, we will make the birth of Estrella da Amadora a reality.”
The aim of the new SAD of Estrela is to move to the Primeira Liga within two years, to build a training center and even a stadium.
