The “Humanity Ladders” test of resistance and overcoming will once again bring more than a thousand firefighters to Bom Jesus de Braga on September 30.
The event is organized by the Associação Família de Elite and ADN Eventos Desportivos, in collaboration with the Confraria do Bom Jesus do Monte and the Municipality of Braga and with institutional support from UNESCO, the Portuguese Firefighters Association and the Sabadores Firefighters of Braga. .
The event starts at 08:00 with the firefighters concentrating on the Bom Jesus do Monte arcade (where the climb to the Escadórios begins) and the race starts at 09:00.
More than a thousand firefighters and 165 fire departments from eight nationalities (Portugal, Spain, Poland, Romania, Brazil, Cape Verde, Germany and England) including more than 250 firefighters competed.
It is the first race in Portugal, which has a Portuguese Monument, a national symbol, as a backdrop.

This test consists of climbing 566 steps of Boom Jesus against the clock, equipped with full firefighter personal protective equipment (fire jacket, boots, pants, hose, gloves, helmet, open circuit breathing apparatus “ARICA”), in the shortest time possible by distance 615 meters with a positive level difference of 116 meters in an area of unique beauty and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
This year, the second National Blessing of Helmets will be held, an initiative unprecedented in Portugal, which will be chaired by Priest Ricardo Fonseca, also a firefighter.
