Anyone over six months old can now get a flu vaccine. Municipalities have already been allowed to start vaccinating residents from Wednesday (first), depending on the available stock. The expansion applies to those who have not yet been vaccinated against the disease.
The expansion has been approved by the Ministry of Health (MS), through official letter No. 142/2024/SVSA/MS, sent to the states this Tuesday (30).
According to Undersecretary of State for Health Supervision Orly Cardoso, the expansion is occurring due to an increase in cases of respiratory infections and the stock of doses.
“We have reached just over 30% of the total priority groups. The expansion comes at a good time, given the seasonal period of respiratory diseases. The Undersecretary stressed that “mass” vaccination will contribute to reducing outpatient care and hospitalization during the fall and winter period, Respiratory diseases are more common during these periods and people spend more time indoors, which facilitates the transmission of the virus from one person to another.
