The city council of Vila Nova de Gaia and its president, Eduardo Vitor Rodriguez, filed a criminal complaint against the former Social Democratic leader of that municipality, Luis Felipe Menezes, for crimes of abuse and defamation.
The submission of the criminal complaint to the Department of Investigation and Criminal Procedure (DIAP) of Vila Nova de Gaia, in the Porto region, was approved on Monday, with the PSD abstaining from voting, at the general meeting of the municipal executive.
The complaint is based on the fact that, in a post on the social network Facebook, the former leader of the Public Security Directorate accused the current mayor, elected by the Socialist Party, of interfering in the land licensing process.
At the beginning of October, in that publication, Luis Felipe Menezes also blamed Eduardo Vitor Rodriguez for being the “mastermind” of “criminal somersaults”, such as changing artistic opinions, to harm him, and announced that he had handed over the case to the authorities.
Later, the Public Prosecution confirmed that it had opened an investigation into the complaint filed by the former president of the Gaia Lewis Chamber against the current mayor.
In response to Lusa’s question, the Public Prosecutor’s Office confirmed receipt of the complaint, which “led to an investigation.”
