numberThese negotiations concern matters such as revising the doctors’ pay scale, determining the full-time system, and reorganizing emergency and medical work.
After the first meeting, the Secretary General of the Federation of Independent Doctors (SIM), Jorge Roque da Cunha, highlighted the “positive start” of the negotiations and added that today’s meeting will analyze the concrete proposal of the Ministry of Health.
The president of the National Federation of Physicians, Noel Carilho, said the parties had already agreed that “there will be an attempt to anticipate” the deadlines initially set in the negotiations.
These negotiations officially began with the team of Minister Manuel Pizarro, but it was also agreed on the specification of the issues to be negotiated with the former Minister, Marta Temedo, who agreed to include the salary scale of doctors from the National Health Service in the negotiation protocol.
After the resignation of Marta Temedo, at the end of August, the unions representing doctors asked the government to open negotiations, criticizing the Ministry of Health’s “total silence” on the process.
