sYou usually use your cell phone to access your bank accounts, know that there are some precautions you should take to avoid unpleasant surprises, such as Doctor of Finance.
The personal finance company says that “you should avoid using your cell phone for this purpose, but if you really must, there are precautions to take.” Take note:
- Be careful when arriving – “When you use your cell phone in a coffee shop, you are using a public network and therefore it is less secure than a private network, such as your home or friend’s network. A public network allows more users, so it can be more easily monitored by hackers.”
- Install antivirus – “Although native antivirus software is installed on mobile phones, it is not easy. If you want to access your bank account from your mobile phone, the additional security will not be too much”;
- To access your account, do not enter the bank’s website – “Another rule is not to go to the bank’s website. If you have to get to your bank, use the application (application) that it provides”;
- Keep the bank app updated – “This is another golden rule. Banks are constantly working on patching discovered vulnerabilities and making improvements to the security of the application that they make available to their customers. Many updates are automatic, but if the bank asks you to update the application, do so immediately (make sure this is a request from the bank)”;
- Failure to respond to a request to re-enter access codes – “If you receive a notification asking you to repeat access codes to keep your account active or to repeat approval of a bank transaction, do not do it. As banks repeatedly warn, they never send these types of notifications”;
- Do not store your bank account details on your mobile phone – “Never keep your home banking access data, your debit and credit card PIN and your account IBAN number on your mobile phone. You will provide information that can be used to harm you financially. This is one of the frequent alerts on the Bank of Portugal”;
- Beware of the permissions you give to other apps – “How often when you install an app you don’t see a request for permission to access location, contacts, or even other apps? Be careful when you do this. It can let you access your browsing history and even monitor mobile activity”;
- lock screen – “With screen lock, if your mobile phone is stolen or lost, it will be difficult for them to access confidential information”;
- Prioritizing biometric data “Accessing your mobile phone or bank account via biometric data is enhanced security. The fingerprint is yours and therefore difficult to reproduce. However, as with everything, this is not impossible.”
