Paris. France. Novak DjokovicThe world number three and Roland Garros champion in 2016 and 2021 took another step on Friday towards the goal of isolating himself at the top of the list of male tennis players who have won the most major tournaments in tennis history, by qualifying for the round. He has won 16 of the world’s biggest clay court tournaments in an almost unbelievable 17 times in his career.
The 36-year-old Serb came out on top in two stunning sets – which took nearly three hours, as he dispatched his opponent in the first set and earned a set point in the second – but then cruised to victory 7-6 (4), 7-6 (4). 5) and 6-2, at around 3:40, confirming another presence in the second week in Paris…without losing sets. By the way, Djokovic has lost only one of the 31 sets he played in Grand Slam tournaments this season.
