Marian Vajda is no longer associated with the Serbian tennis player
Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic has stopped working with coach Marian Vajda, who has been with him for 15 years and who helped him win 20 Grand Slam titles.
In a statement posted to the current world number two’s website, Djokovic and Vajda said they had reached an agreement to end the partnership at the end of the ATP Finals, in 2021.
“Marianne has been by my side during the most memorable moments of my career. Together we have achieved some amazing things and I am so grateful for his friendship and dedication over the past 15 years. Even though he will leave my team, he will always be a family member and I cannot thank you.” Enough for everything I’ve done.”
The two previously had a brief split in 2017, but got back into action the following year, with Vajda claiming 85 of Knoll’s 86 career titles and 20 majors.
The coach said, “During my time with Novak, I was fortunate enough to see him grow into the player he is today. I will look back on our time together with great pride and am so grateful for the success we have had.”
The announcement comes a day after, for the first time in two years, Novak Djokovic slipped from number one in the world rankings, after being overtaken by Russian Daniil Medvedev.
