I chose the title of this article not by chance. password when talking about it health Digital is prioritizing a trip patient🇧🇷 But, before delving into the main pillars that I believe can’t be missed in this process, I’d like to first give a brief explanation about the importance of understanding the so-called ‘patient journey’.
The patient’s journey can, in many contexts, suggest an action that has a beginning, middle, and end. Thinking of an individual, who may have been admitted to the hospital, attended to, diagnosed and treated, and that’s it.

But this should be just the beginning of what will be the real journey of the patient: a path where he can of course be attended to when necessary, but where he does follow-up before and after his visit to the health unit, and, fundamentally, an ecosystem that enables active and permanent monitoring, so that health remains and does not perish.
At MV, there’s been nearly 20 years where our main focus has been specifically on the line of care, with strong work in bringing technology that has a positive impact on the work of clinicians and other players who may be involved in that care process, as well as the patient — after all, if we can From implementing methods to achieve greater certainty and independence for health professionals, this is directly reflected in the quality and support of care.
However, I can confidently say that all these years of providing technology support to the healthcare field has allowed us to build a unique look at the patient journey. As a result, it also allowed us to clearly visualize the critical points that I mentioned at the beginning of the text and that I consider essential to prioritizing the patient journey.
Navigation to pave the way
The patient is also responsible for his own health. This is the key we have come to and I think other professionals in the area share this view. Thus, we come to the conclusion that the closer the information is to the patient, the more guarantees it will be shared. How do you advance this proximity? through applications.
We are known to currently have 152 million Brazilian internet users, or the equivalent of 81% of the population over 10 years old, according to data from Most recent ICT household surveyis developed annually by the Internet Governance Commission of Brazil and published by the Regional Center for Studies on the Development of the Information Society (Cetic.br) of the Information and Coordination Center of Ponto BR (NIC.br).
Of the total respondents 99.4% use Cellular Internet, 64.1% of which is for exclusive use. Meaning, we can say that the path that will involve more people and make it easier for patients to be closer to their health will be through mobile applications.
Integration and interoperability for continuity of care
Given that the individual already has the information in the palm of his hands, he can easily contact the clinic, make appointments at the same time that he feels something is not going right, or even get help via telemedicine, being able to receive prescriptions and notifications The other task is also across the app, eg.
These resources allow to address the first steps of the journey, but also provide ways to accompany the individual throughout the journey, either by the doctor or even by the operators, in order to ensure a rapid bridge between health institutions and patients in favor of a more preventive health.
This becomes an encouragement to doctors who frequently have to deal with self-treating patients through Internet searches and also reassurance to the person themselves, who, instead of searching the Internet, can go straight to a safe source.
If we think of a fully integrated Digital Health system, a patient can even leave a consultation and go to a pharmacy that already has a system integrated with the hospital and, therefore, knows the correct medicines for the patient to leave without worrying. About the purchasing step – which also saves time and reduces potential errors in purchasing medicines.
This is especially true if we consider public data sharing. I know this is a challenge today and I can say that it is not even imaginable for hospitals to share data with each other, but not having that integration in practice leads to duplicate testing, wasted time and resources – a high cost to the health system.
With integrated systems and technologies prepared for interoperability and secure sharing of patient information (considering the General Data Protection Regulation – LGPD) between patient and health institutions, I would say this is a bastion that supports transparency, patient safety and also continuity of medical care.
It is beneficial for everyone: it relieves the system financially and also in terms of material resources – be it infrastructure or even exam inputs. It brings transparency to the patient, who knows what to do with their data and doesn’t have to waste time on redundant and unnecessary tests and procedures. Even operators can benefit by offering health plans that are more affordable, customized to the patient’s needs.
Data analysis for health
Finally, we also have the pillar of data collection and analysis – a method provided by technology to bring insights from patient health monitoring on a frequent and ongoing basis. This also applies to long-term patients, that is, those who need constant monitoring.
With the right tools and a focus on health, we’ve been able to expand monitoring and offer a truly connected journey, which provides comprehensive, long-term follow-up of people’s health, while providing more convenience and ease in everyday life. sick today. It’s not hard to imagine: this is the digital health we want. If we continue to transform efforts, I’m sure it will reach more and more people in less time, providing more security, agility, and a better service experience.
