Cases of Covid-19 continue to rise in the UK. According to the latest data provided British Office for National Statistics (ONS), the number of infections surpassed two million for the first time in three months.
According to the office, the number of infections continues to rise in England and Wales, while numbers fluctuate in Scotland and Northern Ireland.
Across the UK, the number of people living in private households who tested positive for Covid-19 rose by 15% in the week, compared to 1.7 million in the previous week.
The Office for Statistics says the number of positive tests continues to rise, particularly among those aged 25-34 and 50-69.
And in Portugal?
According to the most recent weekly epidemiological report by the Directorate General of Health and the National Institute of Health Dr. Ricardo Jorge published this Friday that between October 11 and 17, Portugal recorded 7,340 infections, 46 deaths and an increase in hospitalizations.
Compared to the previous week, there were 761 more infections, with eight more deaths compared between the two periods.
As for hospital stays, the DGS started releasing data on hospital admissions on Monday before the report was released on Fridays.
Based on this criterion, last Monday, 465 people were hospitalized, 45 more than on the same day of the previous week, 32 patients were in the intensive care unit, and four more.
The seven-day event, on Monday, recorded 71 cases per 100,000 people, an 11% increase compared to the previous week, and the prevalence index (Rt) of the coronavirus rose to 0.85.
