This is the smallest increase in cases since 975 was recorded on September 1, 2020 (on August 25 of the same year it was 876), bringing the total accumulated infections in the country to 4,245,779 since the beginning of the epidemic in the country, in the month of February.
Mondays are traditionally the days with the lowest official numbers, compared to the total number of tests taken on Sunday (79,500 tests were conducted between Sunday and today, a total much lower than usual during the week).
Also in the past 24 hours, Italy recorded 36 deaths linked to the SARS-CoV-2 virus, slightly higher than the 26 recorded on Sunday, which has already been seen in the country since October 2020.
Since the beginning of the epidemic in February last year, Italy has accumulated 127,038 deaths linked to covid-19.
The situation and the pressure on hospitals continues to evolve positively.
Of the 157,790 active cases, most of them are at home with mild or no symptoms, while 4,001 have been hospitalized, 106 fewer than the day before, while 536 remain in intensive care units (29 fewer).
The vaccination campaign is also continuing to progress and 14.1 million Italians have already been vaccinated with two doses of the vaccine, which represents 26% of the total population.
With these numbers of clear improvement of the epidemic, Italy continues to progress in dismantling, and as of today, more than half of the country, about 40 million people, will be integrated into areas classified as “white areas”, that is, without restrictions, just use the mask.
