Berlin was the first state in Germany to actually lift all restrictions related to it covid-19 pandemicAnd other federal states are expected to do the same over the weekend.
In the capital, Berliners on Friday were able to enter commercial establishments without a mask for the first time in two years, but authorities maintain mandatory protections on public transport and in health facilities such as hospitals and doctors’ offices.
Health authorities also decided that mask use in educational institutions is no longer mandatory, although the decision has been criticized by teachers’ unions, given the high rate of cases in secondary schools.
Districts or regions that present high epidemiological indicators have been declared “scores” for covid-19, which means that restrictive rules for disease control are maintained.
According to the Robert Koch Institute of Virology, Germany has a cumulative infection rate of seven days of 1,586 cases per 100,000 population.
In the state of Berlin, the incidence is 915 cases per 100,000 residents.
