On Wednesday afternoon, the Alphabet-owned company launched the innovative method of search to the public smart phone o Research department.
As we expected, this is a method that allows you to launch Google on the phone screen, over any currently playing image, and select any item in it. AI “reads” the data, recognizes it – whether it’s an image or text – and initiates an online search on that topic.
During use, the system works very well in terms of recognizing what is on the screen. It's surprising. What sometimes leaves something to be desired are the search results: oddly enough, these often yield lower results than if the search had been performed separately in a search engine.
However, the premise works: browsing on your cell phone becomes different. The ease of starting a search for any item at any time is undoubtedly practical – and almost addictive.
Sadly, the service is limited (at least for now) to the Google Pixel 8 and 8 Pro and Samsung's three recently sold S24 models.
It remains to be seen that Google fulfills its promise to expand the service to include more models throughout this year.
