The mobile unit of “EPI-ASTHMA – Prevalence and Characterization of Asthma by Severity in Portugal”, will be tomorrow (7), at the Family Health Unit (USF) Araceti, in Arazede.
This will be the stage for a case study meeting with the participation of health professionals from this family health unit, researcher Professor Dr. Jaime Correa de Souza (ICVS/UMinho) and Professor Dr. João Fonseca (CINTESIS / FMUP) and representatives of the three partner associations of the initiative, the Portuguese Society of General and Family Medicine (APMGF), the Portuguese Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology (SPAIC) and the Portuguese Society of Pulmonology (SPP).
The meeting, chaired by Joanna Valle, Coordinator of USF Araceti, aims to promote discussion on the potential impact of the study on better management of people with asthma in Portugal, and will include a visit to the mobile unit, where the scientific partnership of the three associations will be confirmed in a symbolic moment.
The study, which aims to determine the prevalence of asthma, as well as to identify the characteristics of patients with asthma in Portugal, is an initiative of the Institute for Research in Life and Health Sciences (ICVS) at the University of Minho (UMinho), of the Center for Research in Health Technologies and Services (CINTESIS), Faculty of Medicine The University of Porto (FMUP) and AstraZeneca Portugal. The initiative is taking place across the mainland, partnering with doctors from 38 primary care units across the country.
The study is scheduled for national completion in 2023, after assessing 7,500 people by phone and 1,800 people in the mobile unit and characterizing 460 patients with asthma.
