On May 31, beginning at 9:30 pm, the webinar on “Mental Health and Post-Traumatic Stress of Firefighters and Families” takes place in a webinar session.
According to the organization, the event aims to bring together “firefighters and their families, health professionals and researchers to discuss the impact of stress from firefighting on health and quality of life.”
This webinar is part of the DECFIRE project – Training in critical decision-making and post-traumatic stress management in firefighting technicians, with Miguel de Sa e Souza de Castillo-Branco as the responsible investigator. The DECFIRE project aims to understand “the neural determinants of the decision-making process when firefighters make strategic fire management and self-protection decisions”, by creating realistic scenarios that are presented to participants in “difficult decision-making situations”.
This project is centered at the University of Coimbra, but links with fire brigade associations and with a clinical working group specializing in trauma following a group of around 200 firefighters.
The webinar is promoted by ICNAS / CIBIT at the University of Coimbra, in association with CHUC’s Psychiatric Service, the Center’s Regional Health Department (ARS) and the Coimbra Region Firefighters’ Union.
