Tensions escalated again amid the debate in the Assembly of the Republic, on Wednesday, due to the intervention of a deputy from Shiga. Bruno Nunes accused MP Patricia Gelvaz, of the Liberal Initiative, of calling him “ridiculous” and defended himself with an attack: “It embarrasses women”. The response came from the Bloco de Esquerda seat, which came in defense of immigrants and women, and ended with the leader of the Chega parliament, Pedro Pinto, calling the bloquista leader, Pedro Felipe Soares, a clown.
All this happened during a discussion where the creation of a national program for the attraction, reception and integration of immigrants was discussed. Bruno Nunes took the floor to criticize PS and PSD and affix IL to the central bloc: “IL is the new friend of the coalition who has constantly said that he wants nothing to do with Chega and that he wants red lines and that on Wednesdays he says, ‘I won’t have dinner at your place on Saturday’.” But nobody invited him. We didn’t invite them to anything and they are very concerned about the progressive liberalism they are defending, in which Joao Cotrem Figueiredo is now the cheerleader, who has already lost his leadership role in the first row.”
During the intervention, according to him, Patricia Gelvaz called the MP “ridiculous” (liberal MP Bruno Nunes corrects him, saying that he said “this is low” and not ridiculous). Bruno Nunes is still in possession of the floor: “Mr President, I didn’t understand the ‘don’t be silly’ part.” Looking at the liberal MP, he said Patricia Gelvaz was “difficult with explanations within Parliament.” He continued: “I won’t answer you, just see how Shame Women are at the helm of this platform.”
Augusto Santos Silva immediately tried to stop the speech, interrupting Bruno Nunes, who continued to speak. Several deputies from the PS, PSD, IL and Bloco de Esquerda benches started to make noise pat.
