Increasingly environmentally conscious and inherently ‘kids are driving the electric car revolution’ even before they can drive, reveals new global research by the global leader in electric vehicle charging solutions, ABB E.-Mobility.
According to the new study, children today not only educate their parents about environmental issues and warn them against environmentally incorrect behavior, but also contribute to discussions about household purchases, such as cars, in this case electric.
The study involved 2,500 parents (with children ages 8-16) and 2,500 children (aged 8-16), and involved participants from ABB E-mobility’s 10 largest markets: Canada, China, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, and the UK. United States and the United States of America.
The results showed that with nearly 8 in 10 parents (79.2%) and three quarters (73.6%) of children (73.6%) recognizing that the current global environmental situation is dire, good intergenerational interaction about the causes of climate change and steps to mitigate it could be crucial.
According to the study, nearly half of children asked their parents to be more environmentally friendly, while 58.1% of parents said they were taught by their children about environmental issues.
In the US, 33% of parents who actually drive electric cars admit that it’s the stress of their kids that has made them change. Globally, the fact that electric and hybrid cars are better for the environment and more economical was ranked as the biggest buying driver for current car owners, in 66.1% and 61% of cases, respectively. That number rose to 93.8% of parents in China, who also said owning an electric car was a better financial investment, as well as a more sustainable option.
