Brazil has reached the mark of 2,010,896 probable cases of dengue and 682 deaths from the disease, according to a Thursday (3/21) update from the Ministry of Health's Arbovirus Monitoring Committee. Data show that women constitute the majority of victims, at 55.5%. Regarding age, the largest number of patients falls in the age group of 20 to 29 years.
A further 53 deaths have been confirmed since the committee's last update on Tuesday (19/3). Another 1,042 deaths remain under investigation.
The rate of disease cases in Brazil now stands at 990.3 per 100,000 people. The federal district is the area with the highest rate of probable cases. There are 5,725.8 cases per 100,000 population. The total number of cases in 2024, according to the Ministry of Health, will reach 161,299 cases in the federal capital.
Vaccines
In a meeting with the National Front of Mayors (FNP) on Tuesday (3/19), Health Minister Nicia Trindade promised municipalities more vaccinations against the disease and more flexibility in transferring resources. According to her, the cities that have already contacted the administration and have an emergency decree will have priority in the distribution order.
