The Brazilian Digital Participatory Platform was presented, on Monday (3), at the national stage of the 17th National Health Congress, organized by the National Council of Health in partnership with the Ministry of Health. The National Secretary for Social Participation of the General Secretariat of the Presidency of the Republic, Renato Simoes, was part of the table with the motto “Guarantee rights and defend SUS, life and democracy – tomorrow will be another day”.
Simes made it clear that social engagement is a priority for the federal government. According to him, the participatory construction of the PPA (Multi-Year Plan) was successful, with public meetings held in 27 states and the Federal District and popular participation also through the Brasil Participativo platform.

The minister said how the lack of support from previous governments hindered and prevented social participation. He noted that the National Health Conference had to overcome the problems of logistics, transportation and accommodation because since 2016, governments have dismantled structures for exercising democracy, including in the states.

Simes highlighted the importance of the PPA in saving public participation. “Many have ignored how to do popular participation, and don’t believe in popular participation, but we have overcome these difficulties and we are here today. The federal government needs to rebuild programs, budget procedures, budget voting, and ensure that this participation is effective.” According to him, the platform makes it possible to unite Brazil on a digital level.
