The 32nd edition of the Festa do Peixe Espada Preto begins today, at 7 p.m., in the Camara de Lobos, with a tribute to the fisherman, in the presence of Miguel Albuquerque, President of the Regional Government, among other entities.
The car park next to the bay has been transformed into a giant terrace, served by five restaurants and 15 other food and drink venues.
Even on Sundays, the main dish is blackened swordfish, but there are also other regional dishes.
The Black Sword Fish Festival, organised by the parish council led by Celso Bettencourt, is already a regional attraction with a place in the August calendar.
The culinary arts are joined by an entertainment program, today with Jorge Ferreira, as the main headliner, starting at 11 p.m. The “I Love Pimba Superstar” program ends tonight around 2 a.m. Before that, at 8:00 p.m., there will be musical groups including the Banda Municipal de Câmara de Lobos, Recreio Camponês and Orquestral Os Infantes.
On Friday, Rony de Mello is the featured artist and on Saturday Mimicat (winner of the 2023 Festival da Canção) performs. On Sunday, 4 Litro closes the shows.
The programme includes cooking demonstrations, performances by many other artists and music nights for dancing, as desired by guest DJs.
The black swordfish fishing is a very important sector of the regional economy. It transports 23 boats and provides work for 250 workers. The turnover reaches 10 million euros per year.
