Benfica won the first official title of the 2023/24 season after defeating Sporting in the Super Cup, a cup that was held on Friday in Sines, 5-4, in a match in which they lost 3-0. The Lions started the derby strong and had already won by three goals after just four and a half minutes of play. Mario Silva called on his players to reorganize their thoughts and everything changed. At the end of the first half, the Eagles overturned their deficit by three goals to one (3-2).
The second half saw Benfica become more aggressive and, above all, more pressing, which presented many difficulties for Nuno Dias’ men. However, it was Sporting who scored again first, increasing the gap to two goals (4-2). The Reds did not give up and just one minute before the end, they tied the match (4-4), forcing them to go to extra time. The balance prevailed again in extra time, but with just one minute remaining, Nuno Dias ordered the team to attack with five field players, giving up the goalkeeper. Sporting ended up losing the ball when they were in the advanced area of the pitch and Jacare did not give it away, thus winning Benfica’s ninth Futsal Super Cup in their history.
