Benfica returned to action on wednesday for The beginning of the pre-season, with the players undergoing medical examinations and physical exams (distributed by groups, the athletes will undergo clinical assessments at the Hospital da Luz and the Benfica campus). Roger Schmidt, coach of the national champions, entered the Seixal Training Center smiling at 8:45 a.m., following Henrique Araújo – the first player to arrive – Paulo Bernardo, Meité, Ristic, Moses and Joao Victor. Meanwhile, Goncalo Ramos, David Neres, Lucas Verissimo, Florentino Luis, Morato, Joao Neves and goalkeeper Andre Gomes have arrived. Rui Costa and Luisao are also on the Benfica campus. After the first days devoted to medical and physical assessment, the team travels to England on Sunday, whence it returns to train at St. Louis Cardinals. George Park will play its first friendly match on July 12 with Southampton, who were relegated from the English Premier League last season.
After the training period in England, Benfica will travel to Switzerland, to play a match against Basel, on July 16, in St. Petersburg. Jacob Park, 16:00 local time (15:00 in Lisbon), followed by participation in the Algarve Cup on July 20 and 21.
There, the Red Team will face the Saudis from Al-Nasr, Cristiano Ronaldo, and below, the Spaniards from Celta de Vigo, both from 20:30 at the Algarve Stadium.
After the Algarve Cup, Benfica will face Feyenoord, on July 30, at the Estádio De Kuip, in Rotterdam, at 4 pm local time (15 pm in Lisbon), after which, it will also contest the Eusébio Cup, on the date and before the opponent to appoint it.
The Candido de Oliveira Super Cup marks the start of the season, on August 8 or 9, in a match in which the champions will face FC Porto, winners of the Portuguese Cup in 2022/23.
