Leicester went to Eindhoven to defeat PSV Eindhoven 2-1 and secure qualification for the Conference League semi-finals. A goal by Ricardo Pereira of Portugal in the 88th minute to give England qualification.
The host team, led by Roger Schmidt (the coach who has every right to sign with Benfica), started well, opening the scoring in the 27th minute, via Israeli Iran Zahavi.
However, Leicester equalized in the 77th minute through James Madison, a result that would have taken the match into overtime, versus 0-0 in the first leg. However, had it not been for Ricardo Pereira’s goal, coming from the right flank, he hit a cross into the goal after a first chance.
Roger Schmidt fired the Portuguese at Roma in the 90th minute (he had already scored by Carlos Vinicius in the 82nd), but the result did not change. He now has to fight for the Dutch Cup (the final match is on Sunday against Ajax), as well as for the championship (four points behind leaders Ajax, and plays five games).
Leicester will now wait for the outcome of the match between Roma (by Jose Mourinho) and Bodo/Glimt to find out their semi-final opponent.
