It is getting closer and closer to a possible return of the historic Nottingham Forest side to the Premier League, 23 years after their last presence (in 1998/99 Forest fell and not promoted to the First Division).
After winning 2-1 away, in the first leg, Nottingham Forest were defeated by Sheffield United and were happier (and efficient) on penalties to confirm qualification for the ‘Qualifiers’ final to advance to the tournament.
With Cafu and Tobias Figueiredo starting on the home team’s bench, the first goal in the match came in the 19th minute, by Brennan Johnson, but Sheffield managed to turn things around: Adel Morgan Gibbs-White in the 47th minute and John Flick, in 75′, gave the visitors an advantage, To force them to extra time, as the score did not change, and the consequent penalties.
At the 11m mark, Nottingham goalkeeper Bryce Samba put on the hero’s robe and saved three shots from Sheffield, and Forest ended up winning 3-2 (Portuguese Cafu came to score and was not lost). It was a real madness on the City Ground, as thousands of fans unleashed a (peaceful) invasion of the stadium to celebrate with the players.
In the final, he will face Forest Huddersfield, who eliminated Luton (2-1 on aggregate) in the other semi-final. The match will take place on May 29 at Wembley, with the winner guaranteed access to the Premier League.
