In an interview with Sporting newspaper, Joao Balenha impressed the Lions’ coach, Ruben Amorim.
« The Reuben [Amorim] He is a modern coach and has a close relationship with the players. The fact that I was inside helps a lot. He’s not one of those coaches who takes his time yelling, he has a way of being super polite and that’s what he really is. We look at the master not only as a coach, but also as a friend and this is reflected on the field. When we do not understand something or are not satisfied, he is frank and free to talk to us. If we have a problem we can always talk to him and that is very important. He said that all players enter the field knowing the role they will play, and analyzing opponents is one of the other strengths of the technical team.
Remember that with Ruben Amorim, with whom he already worked in Braga, João Balenha confirmed himself in Sporting, after loaning him to Moreirense and Belenenses sadly in the time of Jorge Jesus (except for the last season of the coach in Alvalade, but playing a little) as well as in the season that started with Jose Pesero , was later replaced by Marcel Keizer, after spending two years in Braga.
