Helder Malheiro, from AF Lisbon, went to Moreira de Cunejos to direct Moreirense and Porto’s league debuts – with Rui Costa captaining the VAR. The referee from Lisbon has presence and quality and follows bids closely, although he has a hard line, that is, he does not tolerate transgressions or unsportsmanlike behaviour. This was very evident in several moments of the match, some of which seemed very stern in the assessment he made.

6 ‘ – Gonzalo Franco captured Ottavio near his domain. The referee analyzed the throw correctly. A well-marked free kick.
10′ Well shown yellow card for Tiago Aguiar (on the technical bench), for protesting the decision of the referee, who did not consider Marcano’s cross hand illegal. It is important that the technical elements well assimilate the recommendations of the judges for this season, and avoid excesses in their behaviour. They will not bring anything good for themselves or their clubs.
21 ‘ – Lack of Grujic in the central area. The ball was left in good shape for Morence’s attack, which is why the referee used the advantage well.
22 ‘ – Joao Mario was late at the time of entering the show and ended up taking down Camacho, after he also got stuck with another opponent the moment before. It is accepted by reading that the second violation was by negligence.
35 ‘ – Maracas deflected with his body (not his arm) a bicycle kick that was taken by Fabio Cardoso. Legal throw in the Moreirense area.
37 ‘ – A new good feature applied by Helder Malhero, in the event of a foul on Joao Mario, the ball would follow it in better conditions for his team. If there is no negligence in the offense there is no yellow card. The verdict is fine.

51 ‘ – Moreirense goal, with the appropriate clarification: Goncalo Franco, the center of the area, could not touch the ball before it reached Frimpong’s knee/leg. This is the only way to justify the endorsement of the bid either by the assistant referee or later by the VAR. The Netherlands left-back will look offside if his team-mate clears the ball. The bid will be well analyzed by the arbitration team.

90 + 8′ Ottavio took down Gonzalo Franco and there was a moment of confrontation between the two. The referee was never forgiving and once again resorted to cards to settle the matter.
