Two of the main favorites to win the Portuguese Cup, Porto and Benfica, qualified for the quarter-finals after beating Alencor and Benfica, 10-7 (2-4 in the first half), and Valongo, 5-1 (3-0).
Porto’s victory over the second-class opponent’s home had exciting features, as he was 3-7 behind with 10 minutes remaining in normal time, scoring four goals before equalizing and the remaining three in overtime. Alenquer and Benfica, who already had two other Division I teams, Marihense and HC Braga, led the scoreboard from the first seconds, when Mario Rodriguez opened the scoring. He was the host club’s top scorer with four goals, surpassed only by five goals from Porto de Benedetto.
On the other hand, Benfica eliminated a first division rival, Falongo, with whom he will play again next Wednesday, also at the Estadio da Luz, this time with the National of the I Division. Under the leadership of Carlos Nicolia, who opened the scoring, Pablo Alvarez (2-0, 4-0), Lucas Ordonez and Diogo Rafael also scored. Diogo Barata reduced at the last minute.
Also of note is the big win by SC Tomar at home to a team from the third division Sinap with a score of 2-13, in a later stage of the Portuguese Cup, the 16th final.
