Due to the postponement caused by the pandemic, rather than being held on the last day of the year, the São Silvestre da Amadora was held in February, more than two years after the last edition took place.
The 2021 competition, held in 2022, has dedicated new winners compared to 2019: without Rui Pinto, five-time champion and winner of the last four editions, was succeeded by Benfica’s Duarte Gomez.
The player competed in the competition for the first time and retained the title in possession of the Red Club, while Sporting dominated the women’s competition, which occupied the first two places. Catarina Ribeiro had already won the competition in 2015 and 2016 and distinguished herself from Ana Mafalda Ferreira, the 2019 winner, in a green and white competition between the São Silvestre champions.
“I don’t know if this is a turning point, but I hope this pandemic is over and we can succeed freely,” I wished, in comments to A BOLA, Catarina Ribeiro, who hopes to return at the end of the year to defend her title.
