Signed from Maritimo early in the season, Rodrigo Pinho has had a bittersweet year at Luz. The 30-year-old Brazilian striker was seriously injured and ended up playing only three matches with an eagle on his chest, at a time when Benfica have not won any titles.
In an interview with BTV, Rodrigo Pinho evaluated the season in general, highlighting the good progress in the Champions League, but admitted the performance below expectations at the national level.
“A time when there are no titles cannot be considered good. Benfica should always be in the fight for titles, and they should always be at the top of the table. We did well in the Champions League and ended up eliminating Liverpool, which is a great team as well. At the national level we have to do better. It’s over, we have to look at the mistake we made so that next time we don’t do it again and so we can win titles”, he justified.
After completing his seventh season in Portugal, Rodrigo Pinho made his debut with one of the greats, after stints in Braga, Nacional and Maritimo.
“Everything is different. It can’t be compared. Benfica is a club, despite all the traditions and history, the demand will be greater. But this is where all the players want to go. Play in the Champions League, fight for titles. I’m sure the way forward It will be very good”, he said, explaining the feelings of representing the Eagles: “I have played many times against Benfica. I have seen the size and strength of the club, the great fans always support the team. Being in this side now is very special and rewarding.”
