The Declaration of Commitment, proposed by CCDR-Norte and advocating the need for a “firmer commitment of regions and states” in favor of a pollution-free ocean, was unanimously approved by the Atlantic Arc Commission, whose plenary meeting took place in Donostia. -San Sebastian, Spain, informed CCDR-Norte Lusa today, in a statement.
The agreement for these areas, located in Portugal, Spain, France, Ireland and the United Kingdom, aims to prevent and reduce marine litter, which is chemical products, textile fibers and plastics, and to promote the protection of marine biodiversity.
To this end, Atlantic Arc is committed to sharing existing data, knowledge, and networks to promote greener, less wasteful practices.
“Today there is strong political awareness and a common will for the Atlantic Coast regions to accelerate the environment and energy agenda, toward a more sustainable economy,” Antonio Cunha, chief of the Norte Center for Disease Control and Prevention, said in the information note.
The main objective of the Atlantic Arc Commission is to promote, through inter-regional cooperation, the development of the regions of which it is composed.
