HThere are at least three people who have tested positive for Covid-19 among 206 passengers and crew on a ship stranded in Greenland since Monday.
They are isolated, monitored by a medical team on board, and “fine” is guaranteed by the company operating the ship.
The Ocean Explorer cruise ship, operated by Australian company Aurora Expeditions, ran aground during a visit to Northeast Greenland National Park, about 1,400 kilometers from Nuuk, the island’s capital.
On Thursday, a fishing boat tried to pull the ship out of the mud to no avail. This came after hopes were dashed that the high tide on Wednesday would lead to the ship being refloated.
Commander Brian Jensen of the Danish Navy reported that a support ship was expected to arrive near Ocean Explorer on Friday.
“A cruise ship in trouble in the national park is obviously a concern,” he said, according to what was reported by The Guardian. “The nearest help is far away, our units are far away and the weather can be very unsuitable.”
To the same newspaper, an Australian tourist accompanied by her husband narrated the events: “No one seems to be afraid, and they provide us with regular updates.”
After passengers were revealed to have been infected with the coronavirus, some people chose to wear masks in public, Gina Hill said.
