Next year could be Apple launching an iPad Pro with wireless charging capability. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gorman, the tech giant is currently focusing its efforts on developing a new iPad Pro and a new iPad mini.
Apparently, Apple will replace the aluminum case of the Tablet Pro with a glass back, similar to the newer iPhones, in part to allow wireless charging. As you remember, the company switched from glass to aluminum and then back to glass again. The last exchange took place at the launch of the iPhone 8.
Meanwhile, Apple plans to equip the new iPad mini with narrow bezels and remove the home button. It may appear that a smaller tablet will be available later this year, which in this case would be the first model shift in six years. Gurman also shared that Apple is testing the MagSafe system for the Pro device.
Additionally, the company is exploring adding wireless reverse charging features to the Pro tablet, which will allow the user to use its power to charge other devices. Apple has been known to be working on the technology for years, and the feature is rumored to be available for both the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12.
Aside from the new Pro and mini, Gurman said the company is also working on developing a slimmer iPad for students that could be available this year. The tech giant announced AirPower, which can power iPhone, Apple Watch, and Airpods at the same time, in 2017.
However, the project ended up being canceled after nearly two years because it failed to solve significant heating and power problems. Finally, Apple is looking into alternative wireless charging methods that will allow charging over longer distances than an inductive connection can provide.
