Ubisoft has announced a Nintendo Switch sequel to Mario + Rabbids, called Sparks of Hope, coming to the handheld device in 2022.
Revealed during Ubisoft’s E3 Forward, the game is a sequel to the unexpected 2017 game, which brings Mario and Rabbids with a twist of strategy to XCOM. Sparks of Hope will send characters from the original game into space in a battle against a new villain, Cursa.
Sparks of Hope will also bring major changes to the Mario + Rapids formula. The levels will no longer be linear, as players will be able to freely explore each of the planets. The combat has also broken down, leaving behind action networks, with a less restrictive system reminiscent of the Divine: Original Sin.
Mario will get help from a team and so far not all his teammates have been announced. Surely each of them will be accompanied by Sparks, which are basically Rabbid versions of Lumas of Super Mario Galaxy. Each of these characters will give the fighters a very powerful skill that can be used during combat.
Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope wants to be a much stronger sequel than the original and has Grant Kirkhope back to work on the game’s soundtrack. However, unlike Kingdom Battle, Sparks of Hope will be a single player exclusive.
The trailer was shown during Ubisoft Forward, one of several events at E3 2021 taking place over the weekend. You can check out the E3 calendar here and you’ll be able to catch up on all the news here, at IGN Portugal.
