Rising waters and strong winds left James Rufus trapped in his truck for more than six hours before he received unlikely help.
A Kenyan truck driver was caught off guard as the waters of the Galana River in Kenya rose, and ended up trapped inside the vehicle. About to be drenched, the man called for help and ended up being rescued by a helicopter Sheldrake Wildlife Trusta wildlife conservation NGO, which has been called in to assist with the rescue mission.
After heavy storms and rain felt across the country, which caused a sudden rise in the river’s water levels, James Rufus’ tanker truck overturned, forcing him to escape from the cabin. The situation became progressively more dangerous and the driver was trapped and at risk of being swept away by the current.
According to the to throbThe truck driver survived for six hours last Wednesday, when the helicopter arrived on the scene and began the delicate rescue mission. To complicate the task, in addition to water, the wind did not help either.
“The strong winds were accompanied by a whirlpool of water, which created very difficult flying conditions.” I told Sheldrake Wildlife Trust.
The helicopter pilot managed to lower the helicopter and fly as close to the truck as possible. Meanwhile, a crew member strapped himself to the plane’s harness, grabbed the driver’s hand and helped him up.
