Apparently, AMD CEO (Lisa Su) is preparing for a very important trip, to Taiwan, until the end of the year. Why? For meetings with many important partners such as ASUS, Acer, ASMedia and of course TSMC.
In fact, everything indicates that the main goal of the trip is to meet with TSMC, to start negotiating the future of AMD in the world of processors and graphics cards.
Obviously we are talking about 3nm and 2nm processes, both of which are already in the hands of Apple. AMD must ensure a good share, so that competitors do not outpace it.
AMD wants to meet TSMC to secure its future
Therefore, AMD needs to return to the negotiating table in order to ensure that it obtains a “significant” production share for its medium/long term future. After all, even NVIDIA and Intel are already very friendly with TSMC, and as such, their great assets aren’t as secretive as they once were.
However, for the 3nm process, AMD is expected to aim for the N3P process, which is expected to begin mass production sometime next year. As for 2nm, it still has some time to hit the shelves. As such, AMD just wants to reserve its space, before Apple arrives with bags full of cash.
TSMC is the largest (and best) semiconductor manufacturer, so it is necessary to book the stake much earlier than it was before. After all, in addition to AMD and Apple, we also have NVIDIA, Intel, Qualcomm, MediaTek, and so on …
