Microsoft is removing a restriction that prevents Windows 10 users from upgrading to the latest version of Windows 11 for two years.
Constraint It was related to the Intel Smart Sound Technology (SST) drivers found in 11th generation Intel Core processors. Two years ago, Microsoft blocked upgrades to systems containing these drivers and processors, due to compatibility issues with Windows 11.
This action prevented Windows 10 users from updating the system to Windows 11, even if they met all other requirements. At the time, Microsoft indicated that the update might cause errors to appear on screens due to a driver error.
However, it now appears that Microsoft has resolved the issue, and the ban has finally been lifted, allowing users to install the latest Windows 11 update.
Intel had already released driver patches a few months ago, but only now have new versions been released on Windows Update, so users who were previously locked out can start the update.
The company recommends that users first update all system drivers before trying to upgrade to Windows 11, to ensure they are up to date.
